Performed on all commercial and public buildings. This inspection is performed to educate a tenant or property owner on how to maintain a proper level of safety and enforce safety standards in accordance with the current California Fire Code and St. Helena Municipal Code. The scheduling of this inspection is the responsibility of the Office of Fire Prevention and may occur without prior notice.
Businesses on the West side of Main Street are inspected during even-numbered years; businesses on the East side of Main Street are inspected during odd-numbered years. Low hazard occupancies (business offices, mercantile shops, etc.) may be inspected less frequently at Fire Department discretion.
Schools, hotels, multi-family dwellings, and daycare facilities are to be inspected every year.

Performed at varying phases of a building project. For more specific information on inspection requirements for your project, call the St. Helena Fire Department. Scheduling this inspection is the responsibility of the permit holder.
Short-Term Rental Inspections
Must be performed annually as a condition of the Short Term Rental (STR) Agreement. This inspection will ensure that all safety standards outlined in the STR Agreement are maintained and in accordance with the California Fire Code and St. Helena Municipal Code. The scheduling of this inspection is the responsibility of the STR Permit holder.
